How to pick the best kids birthday party theme!

Are you in planning a birthday party for your son or daughter and are getting a little overwhelmed with picking a birthday party theme?  With so many options out there, how do you come up with a theme?

Well here are a few steps to make the process easier.

The first step is to find out what their interests are.  Are they on the soccer team?  Make it a soccer themed birthday party.  Are they into dance?  Have a dance party! Maybe there is a movie that your son or daughter is totally obsessed with like Star Wars, Frozen, Harry Potter.   Or maybe it’s a favorite TV show like Jake and the Neverland Pirates or Dora (pictured above).  Also, picking a themed based on colors is a great way to pick a party theme.  For example, if you like pink, gold, black and white a Kate Spade inspired party would work well.  Picking a theme based on their interest will make the planning process easier and your little one will feel like the are part of the planning process.

Secondly, consider where you’d like to have the party.  Would you like to have the party in your home, outside in your backyard, at a park or at a venue?  This is where it is really important to choose the right theme.  Certain themes work best in certain spaces.  If you pick a theme that involves lots of high energy activities, planning to have your party at a park or backyard would work best.   If you plan to host your party at a hotel venue, they do have certain restrictions, so it’s always best to check before booking.

Lastly, think about the guests that you are inviting.  It’s best to choose a birthday party theme that appeals to both boys and girls.  If you are inviting your daughters entire class, having a Barbie birthday party might not be the best choice.  Choose a theme that will have activities for both boys and girls.  We’ve had several princess parties and have turned them into a Princess/Pirate party so it appealed to everyone.
